Montgomery County has a broad array of retail shops, interesting museums, art galleries, and entertainment options to keep you busy.  If you’re looking for that special gift or unbeatable bargain, visit one of the several unique shops, antique stores or art galleries.  If you’re a history buff, visit the home of Henry S. Tanks, planes and more.

Tour the study where General Lew Wallace wrote one of the most famous novels in history, Ben Hur.  See and touch actual WWII armored vehicles, tanks and weaponry at the Ropkey Armor Museum.  For railroad buffs, visit the oldest intact junction depot in Indiana, the Linden Railroad Museum.

From historic Victorian-style houses to an old rotary style jail (one of only seven in the U.S. and the only one in operating condition), you’ll need extra film while you learn much about history of our county, state and nation.

Arts of Montgomery County.

Visit the Athens of Indiana Arts Gallery where you will find an array of paintings, woodworking, jewelry and other media, located in  downtown Crawfordsville.

The Tannenbaum Cultural Center is a new addition for the Rotary Jail Museum offering an art center and multipurpose facility. The center features meeting spaces, a catering kitchen and two kilns.

Where to shop.

Montgomery County offers a broad array of shopping options.  Visit Crawfordsville, a true walking downtown, and browse specialty shops and retail establishments.  You’ll find quaint gift shops, jewelry and clothing, antique stores, furniture and more.  Enjoy the day with a stop at one of the cafes or local restaurants.  Hit the outskirts for various plazas and outdoor malls with multiple stores and restaurants nearby.
